Toyota last year had announced that it is working on deploying Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) systems on vehicles sold in the United States starting in 2021. But according to some news reports now the company has said that it will not follow any timeline for rolling out these V2X systems and its activities in this direction will be based on the evaluation of the deployment environment.
The reason behind Toyota suspending the program is being claimed is the other automakers not perusing these plans enthusiastically and dragging their feet on this new technology. Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication can help in cutting down road accidents and make automotive safer but its benefits cannot be fully realized without greater automotive industry commitment. The other reason is being stated is the uncertainty and unpredictability around regulation and policies regarding DSRC and 5.9 GHz band.
