China’s Zhuhai Yinlong New Energy interested in setting up an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Punjab

According to some reports, Encouraged by India’s plan to switch electric vehicles by 2030 China’s Zhuhai Yinlong New Energy Ltd is interested in setting up an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Punjab.

It was informed by Punjab chief minister’s office that the Chinese PSU has proposed to launch a pilot project to run electric cars and buses in Amritsar, followed by the smart cities of Jalandhar and Ludhiana, and to set up an electric vehicle manufacturing facility in the state.

Before the announcement, there was a meeting between Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and Zhuhai Yinlong New Energy Co.’s India chief executive Alex Li.

The government of India has an ambitious goal of mass shifting to electric vehicles by 2030.  Recently, the GoI shifted its electric vehicle program FAME to NITI Ayog to expedite the process and ensure better coordination among various ministries.
