The charging time of the electric vehicles acts as one of the impediments for it wide scale adoption. To tackle this Honda Motor is working on development of electric vehicles capable of running 240km on a single 15-minute charge. The company plans to launch such cars in 2022, according to a report by Nikkei.
For this the automaker is planning to create the new high-capacity batteries in collaboration with a partner to be chosen later. The new batteries will be complimented by a lighter vehicle body and more efficient power control system.
While the focus of many automakers has been to tackle the range anxiety of the customers by coming up with cars with longer range, it is interesting to note this different strategy of the Japanese automaker. This shows the company is relying on the possibility of wide range of charging infrastructure when these vehicles will be launched in the market.
The 2020s is being seen as the decade of the electric cars and automakers around the world propelled by the change in the policies of the governments in favor of electric vehicles are coming up with new electric cars and are strategising to have their share in this new expanding market.
