Uber has announced that Portland will be the first U.S. city to be a part of the company’s new initiative of adding more electric cars to their fleet.
Currently, Uber has about 100 drivers among the city’s 6,000 drivers ie. 1.6 percent drivers use electric cars. The company aims to have 10 percent of their fleet be electric vehicles by 2019.
For this purpose Uber is partnering with local non-profit Drive Oregon, Black Parent Initiative and Cynergy E-Bikes, who are working for the expansion of electric vehicles.
The company chose Portland to launch the service because Oregon has stronger clean energy laws than any other state in US.
