Karnataka will purchase 640 electric vehicles under the Central government’s FAME India subsidized scheme, according to some reports. The state has received approval from Dept of Heavy Industries for the same. The Dept will give a subsidy of 60% along with the funds to set up charging infrastructure.Among the 640 electric vehicles to be purchased 40 will be buses, 100 cars, and 500 three-wheelers.
It is known that the government of India is working on an ambitious goal of having 100% fleet of electric vehicles by the year 2030. The government for the purpose has launched Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (FAME) in 2015.
The scheme has 4 focus areas i.e. Technology development, Demand Creation, Pilot Projects and Charging Infrastructure. It is aimed at incentivising– both fiscal and monetary– all vehicle segments i.e. 2 Wheeler, 3 Wheeler Auto, Passenger 4 Wheeler Vehicle, Light Commercial Vehicles and Buses. The scheme covers Hybrid & Electric technologies like Mild Hybrid, Strong Hybrid, Plug in Hybrid & Battery Electric Vehicles.
