Intelematics has been recognised with a national technology excellence award for its work on a flexible connected vehicle platform for Toyota Motor Corporation. The company was named the winner of the Industry Award at the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Australia Awards held in Brisbane last month.
Toyota Motor Corporation Australia has partnered with Intelematics since 2004 for the delivery of its Australian telematics program Toyota Link. In Nov 2006 the Toyota Link program was re-launch with an expanded set of functionality and the introduction of a roof mounted interface console. The expanded program reflects learning’s from Toyota’s first generation services and the growing demand from customers for improved online service capabilities. Working closely with Toyota Australia Intelematics specified and developed all customer facing online applications and backend call centre services. Intelematics currently hosts and operates, on behalf of Toyota Australia, the Toyota Link telematics program.
Intelematics spent more than two years developing the state-of-the-art platform, which provides motorists with access to a range of motoring and travel-related information and assistance services through an interactive vehicle dashboard (and supporting web, smartphone, and agent-assisted interfaces). Variants of these services launched in late 2013 as Lexus Enform and early 2014 under the Toyota Link brand.
As well as acting as the Tier 1 provider of all enabling content, services and technologies for the programs, Intelematics developed in-house the application software operating on the vehicle head-units – a tethered connectivity solution leveraging motorists’ existing smartphones and all the backend systems that bring the program to life.
Intelematics’ innovative architecture allows upgrades and entirely new applications to be seamlessly uploaded to the vehicle head unit, allowing programs to evolve and adapt as the market for connected vehicle services matures. More than 60,000 vehicles are already equipped with the service, and this is building by tens of thousands of additional vehicles every month.
Today, motorists can use the Toyota Link apps to find information such as traffic conditions, cheap fuel, local accommodation and restaurant reviews, as well as connecting with Toyota dealers and preferred roadside assist providers. The flexible architecture will enable Toyota to offer additional and improved applications in the future.
Intelematics continues to be the program operator and aggregator for the connected service on behalf of Toyota Australia
The ITS Industry Award is awarded to the country’s most innovative new product or service. Other finalists for the industry award included NICTA, for its Intelligent Fleet Logistics solution, and SKIDATA Australasia, for its Ticketless Parking Solution at Westfield Miranda shopping centre.
As a result of the win at the Australian ITS Awards, Intelematics is Australia’s nominee for the International ITS Awards, with winners to be announced at the 22nd ITS World Congress to be held in France during October 2015.
