Mando working with Tesla Motors on ‘fail-safe’ technology

South Korea’s Mando Corp is in talks with Tesla Motors to supply parts for its Model 3 car, as it seeks to join other South Korean firms supplying components for Tesla’s more affordable electric cars. The two companies have been working on fail-safe technology since the second half of last year, making Mando Tesla’s preferred choice over other tech giants such as Bosch, TRW and Continental AG.

The fail-safe technology serves as a backup safety program that activates in emergency situations. Such a system will oversee all of the traditional car features, ensuring utmost vehicle safety. Tesla is yet to comment on its partnership with Mando. The company is already in touch with automobile tech provider MobilEye, which makes smart software for Tesla’s auto-steering feature “Autopilot.”

By 2020, Mando aims to generate half of its revenue from next-generation products, including semi-automated driver assistant systems, used in Hyundai Motor’s Genesis G90 luxury sedan.
