Stocks begin moving from 310 warehouses to the PDS outlets on the 20th of the month and by the 30th, the stocks begin to reach the outlets. Tamil Nadu maintains six months’ supply of all commodities. The transportation of goods through trucks is closely monitored and controlled through route charts. The charts denote the route the trucks have to take, the commodities and the destination shop. Officials monitoring the routes can detect diversion in any truck and are authorised to check the vehicle and report to the police. Control rooms have been opened in all districts to receive information on diversion of PDS commodities. GPS have been fitted into trucks in some districts to track movement of trucks carrying PDS goods.
