Waymo joins forces with Lyft to serve more riders in Phoenix

Waymo has joined forces with Lyft to get more riders in Metro Phoenix to experience self-driving technology. Waymo has announced that it will deploy 10 of its vehicles on Lyft over the next few months. John Krafcik, CEO of Waymo, made this announcement through a blog post on Medium.

Once Waymo vehicles are on the platform, Lyft users in the area will have the option to select a Waymo directly from the Lyft app for eligible rides. The company sees this as the first step in its partnership with Lyft that will allow introducing the Waymo Driver to Lyft users, enabling them to take what for many will be their first ride in a self-driving vehicle, he wrote.

The companies share a commitment to make our roads safer and transportation more accessible as they scale their business. The partnership also provides an opportunity to collect valuable feedback and helps Waymo which is building the “World’s Most Experienced Driver.”

It is known that six months ago, Waymo had launched commercial self-driving ride-hailing service in the Metro Phoenix area known as Waymo One.
