Ficosa has received European RED certification for its CarCom platform. The company is known to be dedicated to research, development, production and marketing of vision, safety, communication and efficiency systems for the automotive and mobility sectors. It develops solutions for connecting cars with infrastructures and with other vehicles through the available technologies: both with DSRC (802.11p) and cellular technology (C-V2X).
CarCom platform with Cellular-V2X technology integrates Qualcomm’s latest technology allows integrating the two connectivity options in a modular way and there is also a dual mode variant available. It has also been certified in collaboration with Dekra Laboratories.
This certification will position the company as one of the main suppliers of automotive components in collaborative systems for smart cities (C-ITS). As according to European Commission, the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) establishes a regulatory framework for placing radio equipment on the market.
It ensures a single market for radio equipment by setting essential requirements for safety and health, electromagnetic compatibility, and the efficient use of the radio spectrum. It also provides the basis for further regulation governing some additional aspects. These include technical features for the protection of privacy, personal data and against fraud. Furthermore, additional aspects cover interoperability, access to emergency services, and compliance regarding the combination of radio equipment and software.
