Data from Compass IoT connected vehicle is utilized to inform iRAP initiatives

News, 24 April 2025
As part of its International Road Assessment Program (iRAP), the Road Safety Foundation (RSF) is integrating connected vehicle (CV) technologies. Working with Compass IoT, the ‘UK charity’ measures vehicle speeds directly across networks, enhancing road safety assessments. The iRAP model, which RSF utilizes, assigns roads a safety rating from 1 to 5, helping to pinpoint risks and prioritize improvements to decrease serious injuries and fatalities.
RSF also plans to include G-force data to detect instances of harsh braking and swerving, which could provide valuable insights into driver behavior and road safety, enabling more focused safety measures.
About International Road Assessment Program (iRAP)
Data from Compass IoT-connected vehicle is utilized to inform iRAP initiatives. iRAP is a system that rates roads from 1 to 5 stars based on how safe they are. Roads with higher star ratings are safer, with more features to protect drivers and other road users. The iRAP star rating helps to identify high-risk roads and prioritize safety improvements to reduce crashes and injuries.
