Delhi gets 400 electric bus for feeder service

News, 5 May 2025

The Delhi government is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) for public transport with the introduction of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVI) service and addition of new electric buses for public transport.

As part of the D.EV.i initiative, the Delhi government has deployed a fleet of electric buses manufactured by PMI Electro Mobility. Rekha Gupta, the chief minister of Delhi, and Union ministers Harsh Malhotra and Dharmendra Pradhan officially opened 255 nine-meter electric buses during the ceremony. These buses are intended to function as feeder services, connecting passengers between the main Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster bus networks. Between 2025 and 2026, 2,080 of these local electric buses are to be introduced as part of the first phase of this ambitious initiative.

These electric buses are equipped with features such as real-time diagnostics, automatic passenger counting, and air suspension. These buses, which are outfitted with an Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS), are designed to offer efficient and sustainable last-mile transportation along important municipal routes. The buses have CCTV surveillance, stop request buttons, fire detection and alarm systems, real-time passenger information systems, and capabilities for tracking the health of the vehicles.

There electric buses have 23 seats with six of those seats designated for women. These buses are designed with accessibility in mind, offering dedicated wheelchair spaces with automated ramps, low-floor designs, and a “kneeling” mechanism to assist elderly and differently-abled passengers.

It is estimated that these buses will save Delhi about 5,600 tons of CO2 emissions over a ten-year period.
