Digital payment for charging electric vehicles approved by the Govt of India

The Electric car users in India will be able to pay digitally for charging of their electric vehicles as the government has accepted the recommendations of an expert committee. The government had set up Committee for Standardization of the Protocol for Charging Infrastructure.

The committee has also recommended adopting uniform standards for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the country so that EVs of various models by different manufacturers can be charged at any station.

For the payment the committee has suggested different options like debiting the user’s account based on VIN (vehicle identification number) or through a mobile application which would allow a user to charge using BHIM or Bharat QR code or other digital payment schemes specified by Indian Government.
