The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) for the complete shift towards electric vehicles in India has laid down a roadmap. The roadmap suggests that the country should focus on taking the sales of electric vehicles to forty percent of all new vehicle sales by 2030. The remaining sixty percent of the new vehicle sales in 2030 should be vehicles based on cleaner fuels.
The body has also recommended that by 2030 all the intra-city public transport fleets should be electric by 2030. The body has called for a collaborative effort from all stakeholders of the industry for this transformation to take place and said that the government needs to have a sustained policy for all new vehicle sales to be electric vehicle by 2047.
SIAM has also released White Paper on Electric Vehicles, that can be downloaded here. It is known that the GoI is working on a goal to have hundred percent fleet of electric vehicles by 2030. In this context, the views of SIAM is important as SIAM is an important channel of communication for the Automobile Industry with the Government, National, and International organizations. The Society works closely with all the concerned stakeholders and actively participates in the formulation of rules, regulations, and policies related to the Automobile Industry.
