The Indian government plans to launch the second phase of the FAME India scheme. It will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on September 7, 2018, according to some media reports. The scheme will be offering incentives for mass adoption of electric vehicles with an outlay of Rs 5,500 crore.
FAME India scheme was launched in 2015, it is known that in April, the government had extended the phase 1 of the FAME India scheme by six months till September-end.
The approach to the second phase is being reported to be to have been finalized by an inter-ministerial panel and will soon be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval.
The second phase of the scheme spanning five years, according to media reports, will offer a subsidy to all categories of electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers including taxis and electric buses used in public transportation. The scheme also plans massive charging infrastructure to support electric vehicles
Depending on the technology, battery-operated scooters and motorcycles are eligible for incentives ranging from Rs 1,800 to Rs 29,000, while in three-wheelers it is between Rs 3,300 and Rs 61,000.
