GM, Telefónica Mexico sign connected car deal

The Mexican connected car unit of General Motors (GM), OnStar Corporation has chosen Telefonica as its internet service provider for vehicles to be sold in 2018.

The deal was announced at Mobile World Conference. Under the contract, Telefonica will install 4G LTE connectivity in 2018 models of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac.

The integrated 4G LTE system will also include an external antenna for greater coverage of up to 15 meters, with the vehicle acting as a mobile hotspot for up to seven devices. Telefonica will also be offering connectivity for advanced services like roadside assistance, navigation, location and remote maintenance etc according to the contract.
