Mazda, Denso, and Toyota will jointly develop basic structural technologies for electric vehicles according to a contract signed by the three companies. A new company consisting of selected engineers from the three companies, will also be established to ensure the efficient implementation of the joint technological development projects.
The new company aims to leverage the strengths of each company, including Mazda’s bundled product planning and prowess in computer modeling-based development, Denso’s electronics technologies, and the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform to develop EVs capable of covering a wide variety of vehicle segments and types like from minivehicles to passenger vehicles, SUVs, and light trucks.
A Recent change in the policies in favor of electric vehicles world over and especially in key markets have forced the automakers to change their strategy and move towards electric vehicles. Also, the companies are aware that in this age of disruption when the pace of technological change is so fast, collaboration is the only way, so such steps are not surprising to anyone.
