Dublin is planning to use augmented reality application for promoting tourism in the city. The aim is to increase the number of visitors by 1 million from current 3.8 million by the year 2015. Local software company, GeoGuides will develop the application based on data provided by tourism authority.
This augmented reality application will work when the device is pointed at a particular building or a location. Application will start searching for this object in the database and display all the information related to it in the form of images, audio/video and text. Currently this application is covering around 1,400 points of interests in the greater Dublin area. For further developing this application and making it more user and business friendly there are plans to include features like, flight & accommodation information and booking engine.
