Maruti’s Jimny SUV debuts in Australia with ADAS

Date: December 11, 2023.Maruti Suzuki has launched its made-in-India Jimny 5-door SUV in Australia with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) as a standard feature. The Jimny 5-door, also known as Jimny XL, will be sold alongside the 3-door variant in the Australian market.

A 1.5-litre normally aspirated petrol engine develops 103.3 bhp and 134 Nm of torque in the Jimny 5-door. It comes with both a manual and an automatic transmission. The SUV also has four-wheel drive and a low-range transfer case, making it a good off-roader.

The key distinction between the Indian and Australian versions of the Jimny 5-door is the latter’s incorporation of ADAS features. The Australian government has ordered that all new cars introduced after March 2023 must include autonomous emergency braking (AEB). Furthermore, AEB is a technology that can detect an impending accident. It automatically applies the brakes to prevent or minimize the impact.

Additional ADAS technologies available on the Jimny 5-door include high beam assist. Moreover, this feature automatically alternates the headlights between high and low beams according to traffic conditions. Additionally, there is a lane departure warning that notifies the driver if the car strays from its lane. In Australia, the 3-door Jimny already comes with these characteristics.

The Jimny 5-door has a similar design and cabin arrangement as the 3-door variant. However, it features a longer wheelbase and rear doors that provide extra space and convenience. LED headlights, 15-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connection, cruise control, and six airbags are all standard.

In Australia, the pricing of the Jimny 5-door is AUD 34,990 (about Rs 18.5 lakh) for the manual version and AUD 36,990 (roughly Rs 19.5 lakh) for the automatic model. By year’s end, the nation anticipates having the SUV available for purchase. Moreover, in Australia, Maruti Suzuki has already begun to tease the model on its website.

The Jimny 3-door and 5-door variants will be offered in one of the few international markets. This market is specifically the Jimny 5-door market. Suzuki has not yet released the 3-door form of the Jimny in India; the 5-door model made its debut there in June 2023. Maruti Suzuki plant in Gujarat produces the Jimny 5-door and sells it to a number of countries, including the Middle East, South Africa, and Latin America.
