Google Maps app makes a comeback on iPhone with GPS navigation
USA: Google has launched its own mapping application for iOS 6, available for free on the App Store, which within hours grabbed the top position in the free category on iTunes all over the world. The app offers the Google maps data with turn-by-turn navigation and vector maps that loads quickly and provides smooth tilting and rotating of 2D and 3D views.
It also provides insight into current traffic levels along the route, showing that one route may have heavier traffic than another and estimating travel times given the traffic, something that was not present in the earlier Google Maps iPhone app for the Cleveland, Columbus and Akron area.
Google Maps return has enabled the users to replace a glitch-ridden Apple program panned for omitting key landmarks and sending people in wrong directions. The app is available for the iPhone and iPod Touch using iOS 5.1 and higher, in more than 40 countries and 29 languages, including Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.
Daniel Graf, director of Google Maps for mobile, said: “People around the world have been asking for Google Maps on iPhone. Starting today, we’re pleased to announce that Google Maps is here — rolling out across the world in the Apple App Store. It’s designed from the ground up to combine the comprehensiveness and accuracy of Google Maps with an interface that makes finding what you’re looking for faster and easier.”
