Tesla will add a new hardware in order to make its car capable of Level 5 autonomous driving. These hardware components will be added as standard features on all Model 3 and Model S sedans as well as Model X crossovers, according to a report.
It is known that the Autopilot system corresponds to Level 3 or “conditional automation” which requires human intervention time to time. But with the addition of this new hardware, the car would be able to drive itself fully without any human intervention.
The company will install a new computer in its cars which will be 40 times as powerful than the present Autopilot and will the supplied by Nvidia. The system will have AI features and will be able to perform tasks like predicting the path of customers based on observation of daily routine. The system will also employ “neural net” which allows it to see in every direction with more precision and accuracy.
The future models of Tesla-like Model 3s, Ss, and Xs will have eight cameras installed at spots that would allow 360- degree view at distances up to 820 feet.
