Dear Reader,

Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s founding father, believed that air-conditioner was a necessity rather than luxury, it allowed people to work hard in tropical climate. Hon’ble Road Transport Minister Shri Gadkari ji, who also believed that the truck cabins should be air-conditioned and had earlier proposed this in 2016, was faced with resistance from various quarters. He could finally get the ministry issue notification mandating air-conditioned cabin for trucks manufactured from October 2025.

After an era of startups in the EV charging space, there seems to be consolidation and big ticket investment Tata PEM is partnering with charge point operators to bring them on one mutually benefiting platform. Together with these CPOs, it aims to have 10,000 charging points by 2025. Adani Group plans to set up 75,000 charging stations by 2030. Gogoro, the Taiwanese company which has setup its India operation; with smart-scooters and battery swapping stations, is open to investing couple of billion dollars for an extensive battery swapping stations across the country. That we will transition from ICE vehicles to electric vehicle is known and accepted. Now, we need to focus on how much the industry will contribute to the technology innovation in this transition of mobility. Can we have likes of CATL and BYD in India? Can startup or legacy automotive company be enabled to join this league.

Best wishes,
