Didi Chuxing Trails Premium Ride Hailing Service in Japan

In a move to diversify its operations, Didi Chuxing plans to trail a premium ride hailing service in Japan. The Chinese company will be offering vehicles from Tesla, Lexus and Mercedes Benz like Tesla Model S sedans, Mercedes Benz S-class sedans and Lexus LS series sedans in the country, according to a news report by Reuters.

The trail “DiDi Premium” will be held this month in some areas in Tokyo before being expanded to other major Japanese cities. Didi is already offering taxi-hailing services in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Nagoya.

Didi Chuxing (DiDi) also has an agreement with Toyota to expand collaboration in Mobility as a Service (MaaS) in China. As part of this agreement, Toyota is investing 600 million U.S. dollars in DiDi and a joint venture, which the two companies will establish with GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (GTMC) for vehicle-related services for ride-hailing drivers. It should also be known that the Japanese company, SoftBank also has a stake in Didi Chuxing.
