Delhi extends EV policy again

Date: March 19, 2024.Delhi‘s Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, which was initially set to expire in March 2024, has been extended again. This is not the first extension; the policy has been revised a couple of times since its launch in August 2020. The latest extension, approved in February 2024, keeps the policy in effect until June 30th, 2024. This extension is aimed at maintaining the momentum of EV adoption in the capital.

This applies to all the existing incentives and subsidies offered under the program. So, if you buy an electric vehicle in Delhi before June 30th, you’ll be eligible for the benefits. There’s a possibility of an even further extension. The Delhi government is working on a new EV policy, called EV Policy 2.0. The current extension might be in place until this new policy is implemented.

The existing incentives and subsidies will persist without alteration, and vehicles purchased starting from January 1st onwards will qualify for these benefits as part of the extended policy. This extension reaffirms the commitment to fostering a sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation infrastructure in Delhi. Initially launched on August 7, 2020, for a three-year term, the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy was prolonged until December 31, 2023, and the government is presently crafting the EV Policy 2.0. Notably, financial incentives exceeding Rs 179 crores have been distributed across diverse electric vehicle segments.

This policy extension reflects the Delhi government’s commitment to fostering a cleaner environment by encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles.
