Sooorya EV unveils 8-seater electric taxi

Date: January 31, 2024. — Singapore-based Sooorya EV has revealed the styling for its upcoming passenger fleet EV, which is designed to suit the needs of the ride-sharing economy in developing countries. The company has been working on the project since 2017 and plans to launch its prototype in India by the end of 2024. The Sooorya EV is an 8-seater electric taxi that features a unique vehicle architecture of fixed batteries, swappable batteries, and a solar roof.

The company says that this combination will decrease charging downtime and increase vehicle economy. The EV will also include a built-in gadget for app, GPS, and WiFi access, individual seats with seat sensors, USB charging, and a panic button, air conditioning, UV light sterilizing, and adjustable seating to enable wheelchairs, luggage, pets, food deliveries, and so on.

The company claims that the EV is economical, comfortable, and environmentally friendly. It also intends to target the rising market for shared mobility services, expected to exceed $379 billion by 2027. Micro-factories near consumer markets should construct the EV. This done in order to streamline logistics and supply chains. Moreover, the company plans to combine circular economic principles and sustainability into its design and business model.

Christie Fernandez, the founder and CEO of Sooorya EV, said, “We have already spent over 5 years of concentrated effort in product development. Now, we have everything in place to get into production.” He added, “SOOORYA is redefining the design, manufacture, sale, and operation of automobiles. The company has a strong focus on sustainability, profitability, and societal impact.”
