Swiggy to use Gogoro battery swappable electric scooters

Date: August 19, 2023. Electric scooter manufacturer Gogoro and food delivery platform Swiggy have joined forces to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in India.

Gogoro, known for its electric scooters and battery-swapping infrastructure, will collaborate with Swiggy. They will provide a fleet of electric scooters exclusively for the use of Swiggy’s delivery executives. This initiative seeks to replace the traditional petrol-powered delivery bikes with zero-emission electric scooters. This will help reduce air pollution and contribute to a greener environment.

Swiggy committed to using EV delivery to travel 8 lakh kilometers daily in 2021. Through strategic alliances with market leaders like Reliance BP Mobility Limited and Hero Lectro, the company has made tremendous progress. It has been at the forefront of sustainable mobility since, adopting electric cars for last-mile deliveries. Due to this, delivery partners have been able to reduce their vehicle operating costs by up to 40%. This has boosted their income.

One of the most significant aspects of this collaboration is the integration of Gogoro’s battery-swapping technology. Swiggy’s delivery partners will have access to a network of battery-swapping stations strategically placed throughout select cities. Consequently, this feature eliminates the need for extended charging times. As a result, it allows delivery personnel to quickly exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones, thereby minimizing downtime and ensuring efficient operations.

The adoption of electric scooters for food delivery services not only supports environmental conservation but also enhances the livelihoods of delivery executives by providing them access to cost-effective and convenient electric vehicles.

The initial phase of the partnership will focus on select cities. Subsequently, plans to expand to more locations will be based on the success of the program. Consequently, Gogoro and Swiggy’s collaboration is expected to set a precedent for similar initiatives in the Indian market. This, in turn, will encourage other companies to embrace electric mobility solutions and contribute to a cleaner and healthier future.
