USIBC launches AI task force

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) is to announce the inauguration of its AI Task Force (AI-TF), a step in aligning U.S. and Indian leadership on artificial intelligence (AI). Under the auspices of USIBC, the AI-TF will advance AI concepts and principles, drive multistakeholder processes, and promote the development and commercialization of AI technologies. The AI-TF builds on the Chamber of Commerce’s AI principles and endorsement of the OECD’s recommendations on AI.  

Key Aims of the AI-Task Force: (~Gemini, Google)

  • Advance AI Concepts and Principles: The task force will work on establishing common ground and understanding regarding responsible and ethical development of AI, drawing from existing frameworks like the Chamber’s AI principles and OECD recommendations.
  • Drive Multistakeholder Processes: The AI-TF aims to foster collaborative problem-solving and knowledge sharing for effective AI implementation. Moreover, it brings together diverse stakeholders, including businesses, policymakers, and academia..
  • Promote Development and Commercialization: By facilitating joint research, development, and investment opportunities, the task force strives to accelerate the growth and adoption of AI solutions in both countries.

USIBC President, Ambassador Atul Keshap stated, “With the AI-TF established under USIBC’s leadership, our transformative journey begins, guided by a clear strategic focus. The AI-TF is a game-changer, especially needed amid the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence. Through this initiative, we seek to harness the immense potential of AI, propelling competitiveness in both U.S. and Indian economies and our citizen-led societies. We also eagerly anticipate molding a future where AI propels progress, fostering advancements that uphold shared values and democratic principles. Moreover, it drives economic prosperity for both our great democracies.” 

The Committee’s industry leaders include Kamal Ahluwalia, President at Ikigai Labs; and Todd Skinner, President of International at TransUnion; alongside USIBC Board Chairman and Executive Vice Chairman of Nasdaq, Ed Knight. “The establishment of USIBC’s AI-TF marks a significant stride in nurturing a stronger alliance on groundbreaking technologies today,” said Knight. “The Task Force will encourage a principled approach to AI adoption. Moreover, it will ensure that we can harness these transformative technologies safely and securely. The USIBC also looks forward to continued discussions with the U.S. and India as we help bolster our countries’ AI leadership.” 

Dr.Sethuraman Panchanathan, Director of the U.S. National Science Foundation, remarked, “Partnerships will be key to the future of a trustworthy, safe, and secure AI enterprise. The rapid advancement of AI necessitates collaborative efforts among researchers to achieve cutting-edge innovations, while upholding shared values and principles.” 

“Collaboration is critical to ensure communities have access to the solutions they need to address water challenges,” said Matthew Pine, Xylem president and CEO. “This collaboration is why Xylem launched the Reservoir Center for Water Solutions alongside water sector leaders. Moreover, we were honored to gather Director Panchanathan and the U.S.-India Business Council to announce the creation of the AI Task Force.”
