Tata Motors achieves 1 lakh EV, targets 1 million by 2030

Tata Motors has reached a significant milestone in EV sales within India, having crossed the 1 lakh(100,000) mark. It took Tata Motors five years to reach 1 lakh sales. In a span of 44 months, initial 10,000 units were sold; next 40,000 units were sold in 15 months, remaining 50,000 sold in 9 months. Presently Tata Motors is selling 9,500 to 10,500 units of EV every month. It has been forging alliance with shared mobility platforms and smart cities authorities for electrification. At the forefront of this achievement is the Tiago EV, which has emerged as best-seller in Tata Motor’s electric vehicle lineup. The Tiago EV, Nexon EV, and Tigor are some of the EVs that it now offers for sale.

Building on their recent success, it has now set an ambitious target to achieve 10 lakh(1 million) electric vehicle sales in India by the end of the decade.

Shailesh Chandra, the managing director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, was quoted in ABPLive, when asked about the company’s sales goals for the EV market- “We have said that in the next four to five years we will target 25% penetration and by the end of this decade we are aiming for 50% penetration.”

EV Strategy

Tata Motors has previously announced its three-phase EV strategy. It aims to offer various affordable EV options with diverse body types, adapting to changing preferences and buyer requirements. It anticipates that these EVs will introduce new client groups to India.

The Tiago EV is spearheading change; consequently, Tata Motors has become a driving force in successfully reshaping India’s automotive scene.
