Tesla to sponsor Pwn2Own automotive event

Date: August 31, 2023. — Tesla, recently announced its participation as a key sponsor in Pwn2Own Automotive event in Tokyo from January 24 to 26, 2024. Tesla’s participation is an emphasis on the automotive cybersecurity.

Four categories would be available in Pwn2Own Automotive. The first focuses exclusively on Tesla electric cars, offering participants the opportunity to win the car along with cash rewards of up to $200,000. In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI), which is growing more and more popular among hackers, is the focus of the second category. EV charges fall under the third category, which is also the subject of some attacks. The final competition category will ask competitors to identify flaws in the Android Automotive OS, Blackberry QNX, and Automotive Grade Linux operating systems. They will also be required to take advantage of these flaws.

The automotive industry has witnessed significant advancements in recent years, with vehicles becoming more connected and reliant on software systems. While these advancements have brought numerous benefits, they have also raised concerns about potential security risks.
